A unique, intensive, hands-on opportunity
to learn the craft of DJing with master DJ Shorey Myers
brought to you by Tango Mar Vista
DJs from all over Southern California
are encouraged to roll up their sleeves this weekend
and take your DJing to the next level
under the expert guidance of Shorey Myers.
The DJ Bootcamp
This program is for established and aspiring DJs at all levels - whether you have a hundred playlists saved in your computer or you're just starting to think about creating your first one.
During this afternoon session, we will cover the central tenets of Tango DJing:
- Principles for understanding how energy is created by music at a milonga, and how to keep the great dancers on the floor dancing all night
- A pragmatic look at Tango musical geneaology since knowing interconnections between orchestras helps you make enjoyable transitions between tandas
- Strategies for building and organizing your library, networking to tap the knowledge and riches of other admired DJs
- Dissecting actual playlists that YOU submit to understand opportunities where you could improve flow
Participants are also encouraged to ask Shorey questions during the Oxygen All-Night Milonga to understand her in-the-moment strategizing, tanda choices and song selections.
Skilled and sensitive DJs hold a crucial, central role of influence in a growing Tango community. Learning to DJ makes you a better dancer and teacher, and a stronger resource for the community.

About Shorey Shorey is a sought-after DJ for the major North American Tango festivals, usually DJing the crucial late-night milongas. She has DJ'd in Buenos Aires at prestigious and punk venues including Salon Canning and Praktica 8. Her musical intuition is like magic. At the same time, she is lucid and intelligent, able to articulate her choices and processes with great precision. Her love of classic Tango music is infectious. << This is Shorey with famed Tango vocalist Alberto Podesta, who sang with the orquestas of Carlos DiSarli, Miguel Calo, and Pedro Laurenz. |
